Friendly Fires - “Paris” (Aeroplane Remix)

I’m big on travel. Traveling is the pretty much the only thing I think about anymore. I’ve got an upcoming 8 hour flight to Japan and I’m trying to come up with a traveling playlist for the ride.

My first thought is this amazing remix of Friendly Fires “Paris” which replaces the original vocals with the always beautiful Au Revoir Simone. The original song is a sweet but unremarkable promise to move to France but it becomes an instant party with the heavy Aeroplane synth and the updated vocals.

What suggestions for good traveling songs do you have?

I’m a big fan of both the original version of “Paris” and this remix. If you know me, once you hear the lyrics you’ll understand why.

Wednesday (11-4-09)

Tabata* Push-ups = 10 (Total: 90, last round did 20)

Tabata Sit-ups = 8 (Total: 66, last round did 10)

Tabata Squats = 16 (Total: 128)

Today was Crossfit total, but since I just did it not too long ago I took the day off to go home and unpack. Decided to squeeze a quick workout in the evening

Last time I did tabata push-ups I tried doing 15 each round, which went to shit in round 5. Last time I did tabata squats my score was 15. I said I’d try and get 16 next time. I did, so that’s nice. Next time I go for 17.

*Tabata: For twenty seconds do as many reps of the assigned exercise as you can - then rest 10 seconds. Repeat this seven more times for a total of 8 intervals, 4 minutes total exercise. The score is the least number of reps for any of the eight intervals.

The workout also called for pull-ups but since I did this one from home I wasn’t able to. My time would have probably been around 30 minutes if I had to do 150 pull-ups. This was definitely a brutal workout. A lot of fun as well. Glad I squeezed this in there before going out on Halloween.

I’m still getting the hang of double-unders. I was able to string 8 together at one point of course that was during the 10 rep round. It would have been nice to string those together more. My time will drop drastically once I get the hang of those. I need to work on putting them into my warm-ups. I’m hoping next time to get closer to 10 minutes. This relies heavily on getting those double-unders down (broken record).

*A double-under is when you jump once and the jump rope goes around your body twice.

I’ve played the arcade version of this game… it’s really, really weird. Even more so than the box art would lead you to believe.

Play the game at Barcade in Brooklyn, it’s ridiculous. OR, better yet, go listen to the band, they’re AMAZING.

Hardly Working: Love and Sleep. Inspired by a verbal slip-up I made in a writing brainstorm. Furthers our opinion that consuming an inappropriately large Slurpee is the most obnoxious character trait imaginable.

As someone who always falls asleep on the subway I had a lot of fun directing and editing this one.
